RYAN SIMON
Ryan Simon, yet another child in the royal Simon family, has made this week's "Pick of the Week." Before beginning his musical career, Ryan was a devoted body builder. His father, Larry, former PLB Pick of the Week, encouraged Ryan to lift a little calf high over his head everyday to build strength. As the years went by, the little calf became a 1100 lb bull, and Ryan was able to effortlessly lift the bull high above his head. He progressed to lifting trucks, then trains, then buildings. He was once reported to have, "ripped a 600-year-old oak tree from the ground and hurl it 23 miles." This tree was later weighed at 680 tons. This continued until the age of 18 when we began a Cajun band with his brother, Drew. As fewer and fewer muscles were used playing the accordion, Ryan began to lose his extreme muscle mass and return to a normal tolerable size (see picture below). The Cajun Music continued until Ryan found a new passion in life-- playing Minstrel music in a band with Mark de Basile. In this band, known as Jester Forever, Ryan dressed as a jester and rode everywhere on a unicycle playing the mandolin or juggling balls. He opened the show for the Pine Leaf Boys in January 2006. Today Ryan lives with his wife in Breaux Bridge. Nothing is too far out for Ryan Simon-- except for this award. May he live forever!
