Josh Caffery

The real Josh Caffery (this picture has not been edited or altered in any way)

So many people deserve to be the PLB Pick of the Week, but we chose Josh anyway. Ha, no Josh deserves just as much as those other guys out there. It is usually Josh who sits behind a pen and paper and writes interesting stories on fascinating people, so now we finally have arranged the opportunity to "Meet the Real Josh Caffery." Inspired by a award-winning autobiographical film, "Me, Josh" the Pine Leaf Boys took to hosting a one-on-one with Josh and interview him about his new movie, his new recording projects, and his history with magic.

Josh was born in Franklin, Louisiana and currently lives in Breaux Bridge. He is a freelance writer and excellent musician, playing guitar primarily with Feufollet. But before Josh learned magical guitar, and even before he moved to Breaux Bridge, Josh studied magic with his lesser-known uncle, Jish Caffery. Jish knew a few card tricks, but most of them were pretty sucky, but still, Josh was captivated by magic, and at the age of 12, performed his first magic show at his brother's birthday party (see picture below). Josh's claim to fame is performing magic while on stage with Feufollet. Rarely a night goes by when Anna Laura isn't magically elevated into the air and spun around.

So Josh, how's life in Breaux Bridge? Well, it's quiet out here. Almost too quiet sometimes, but not quiet enough if you know what I mean...
No, I have no idea what you mean. That made no sense. No. No, it didn't. But what does make sense is Feufollet. These kids are great.
Yes they are. How did you get the gig playing with Feufollet?
Well, they needed someone with hot licks like mine, so one day, Steve called me up and asked if I'd be interested in shaving my beard and playing with Feufollet, so I said, "Hell yeah!"
Why did he want you to shave your beard? Because it made me look older than the rest of those kids. Once I shaved it, I looked younger than all of them combined, divided by two.
Wow, fascinating. So are you still doing magic? Only when I want to. Do you want to see a little bit of magic?
Yes, very much so.

At this moment, Josh pulled his guitar from a case, and strummed a G-chord, then effortlessly switched to a D-chord. Then, he disappeared. Boom. Like that. While driving home, I found him on the side of the road in a muddy ditch, covered in sewage and garbage and soaking wet. "I'm still working on that trick," he said with a grin.

My hat's off to you, Josh Caffery. Kudos, kid.
