"Skyler"

Skyler is a new-comer to the Pine Leaf world. As he admits, we've seen this guy around Lafayette for years, but none of us ever knew his name. We knew his face, but until last night, we had no name to attach to that face. He's a good guy, with a good sense of humor, so we had to praise him as our 11th Pine Leaf Pick of the Week.

Not much is known about Skyler, so we had our team search the Internet and find out whatever we could about "Sky." The Research & Collections department amazingly dug up a good amount of information about our friend. We pieced together what we could and made up the rest.

Skyler was born in Eastern Europe in 1597. His great-great-great-great-great-great grandson, Charles Grohchu, invented the first time machine in 1986 and successfully traveled back in time in search for his ancestors. Upon finding Sky, (pictured FAR left with the sword), Charles abducted him and brought him back to the present day.

Sky adapted quickly to his new world and learned modern English with haste. But, in his heart, he longed to return to his native world, his mother land in the late 1500s. Charles son learned of a Renaissance Fair in New Orleans (or Nüoqph Orlqèmanszq as his tribe would have pronounced it) and brought Sky to Renaissance Day.

With a tear in his eye, Sky tore his clothes off and cracked a stone over the head of a soldier from the Ottoman Empire. He stole the soldier's clothes and ran into the fair grounds, slaying everyone who wasn't part of his tribe.

Sky was arrested and brought to court, where he was found Not Guilty by terms of "Man traveled through time, and thus was unaware of common day laws and customs."

Today, Sky can be seen at Renaissance Fairs and Cajun Dances. Kudos, Sky, you are indeed the salt of the Earth. Oh, if you see Sky at one of these fairs, don't call him Sky. He only answers to "Wine-master" or to a lesser extent, "Master of the Wines" If you call him Sky, he'll kick your ass.
