Jesse Lege

Jesse Lege is one of our favorite people on this Earth. A master accordion player and super vocalist, Jesse is a living legend in Cajun music. Jesse ain't scared to sing the Convict Waltz in D, or the Manual Bar waltz in D. While the average Joe Shmo's head would certainly explode, Jesse powerfully belts Quel Étoile in D, or if you ask him, E or F. When he plays accordion, he possesses a stance of such rigor, that even a hit from a rhinoceros would leave him bolted down, unaffected.

But that's not why he is our "Pine Leaf Pick of the Week™" Jesse is the last Cajun pirate on this planet. I don't mean "pirate" like a freaky chum in tights on a big ship, but rather a "Cajun Pirate." A Cajun pirate who swings over from his new vessel, the "New England," and whisks through Louisiana, challenging the youth and elders to accordion and arm-wrestling contests.

As a young one, Jesse played bagpipes in a Scotish-bluegrass band (see picture below). He lost interest at the age of 15 and picked up the accordion. Scotish-bluegrass, althoguh quite fantastic, was not very popular in Louisiana in the early 60s.

Jesse Lege is the king of the jam session. Even after playing a 5 hour dance, you'll likely find Jesse jamming on the porch, drinking a beer, for another 4 or 5 hours. We can't beat him. One night, we had a contest with Jesse to try to stay up later than him, jamming all night. But Jesse beat our brains out, and laughed while doing it.

Jesse Lege is unlike any other. And for this, he is our glorified Pine Leaf Pick of the Week.
